Two magpies hunting for insects I suppose. The one to the left may be learning from the one to the right – or just looking for the right moment to snatch a catch.
A sibling to one of yesterday’s moorhen chick trying to join a perch of black-headed gulls on a birch trunk leaning over Slättadam. Can anyone join this club? I suspect the answer is: No!
A moorhen chick exploring the shoreline of Slättadam. (Common moorhen = Rörhöna – Gallinula chloropus.) I haven’t seen moorhens on Slättadam before, suddenly there’s a mother with a clutch of six chicks – fluffy balls with huge feet.
Three ducklings from a clutch of at least five exploring the lilly pads on Slätta damm yesterday morning. They are so fluffy I wasn’t sure I was getting them in focus till I saw the focus was good on the drops of water on their backs. The mother (out of shot) was watchful but not alarmed. I think the species may be Tufted duck (Aythea fuligula – Vigg in Swedish).
