Yesterday, on the World’s Five Corners fountain at Järntorget, I found the figure representing Asia wrapped in a blanket from one of the nearby restaurants and with a scarf around her neck. Someone had also given her a rose and (just out of shot) a bottle of beer.

New Year 2014: fireworks over Gothenburg seen from the top of Ramberget on the last night of the Old Year. The building to the bottom right – the oblong block of light between two light pillars – is the Opera House on the river and the searchlight is shining from the top of Läpstiftet.

The statue of Gustaf II Adolf (aka Gustavus Adolfus) founder of Gothenburg is missing from the main square at present, undergoing restoration. In the meantime this version of his plumed hat and pointing finger is floating in the Hamnkanal.

…or perhaps he was drunk and throwing up. Not sure.
