The raised bridge framed by the entrance to Gothenburg’s opera house
[dot_recommends]
The central section of the bridge over the Göta river in Gothenburg can be raised to allow ships with a greater sail height than 18.3 metres to pass. It doesn’t happen so often, so I got lucky with this picture.
The bridge is due to fail by 2020. No, I’m kidding! It reaches the end of its constructed lifespan in 2020, but might not fail even so. (I hope it doesn’t – I use it daily.) The debate about how to replace it – and with what – is still underway.
I see Google maps believes the bridge is called Hjalmar Brantingsgatan. They’re wrong.
